God from God, Light from Light
An Ecumenical service celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea
Thursday 12th June at 5.30pm at Hereford Cathedral. This has been organized by the Herefordshire Catholic Deanery together with Hereford Cathedral. We are delighted that Archbishop Mark will preach, and preside alongside the Bishop of Hereford. Do join us in this opportunity to witness to our common faith.
What are we celebrating and why is it important? The Council of Nicaea, held in 325 AD, was the first ecumenical council of the Church and marked a turning point in Christian history. Its central significance lies in its definition of orthodox belief in the divinity of Christ, “God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God…consubstantial with the Father.” It also gave us the core of the Nicene Creed, uniting the Church over the centuries in a shared profession of faith. Something to celebrate!
